Curating an 85-year Legacy for Digital Audiences

In celebration of architecture and design firm Perkins&Will’s 85th anniversary, our team created a digital “museum” featuring exhibitions about the company’s legacy projects and the people behind them. I led the research, traveling to the firm’s Chicago office to comb through the archives and select materials for the exhibition. After curating the materials and designing the site, we launched six online exhibitions accompanied by a multi-channel marketing campaign. The site continues to serve as a digital archive of Perkins&Will’s historic portfolio.

— The homepage of the digital museum provides an introduction to Perkins&Will’s storied history. It serves as a jumping off point for visitors to dig deeper into the archives.

— Exhibition pages feature a collection of drawings, plans, photographs, and other materials for visitors to explore. Several of the artifacts are accompanied by a an oral history recording from architect Ralph Johnson, who has been a part of Perkins&Will for more than four decades.

— The exhibitions were launched over the course of a year, each one accompanied by a social media story that featured highlights from the archives.
